Support Miro
Dear Friends,
Three years ago we founded Miro Dance Theatre to explore the intersections of contemporary dance, video, and visual art. This past year has been full of successes and growth for the company. From shows at the Whitney Museum in NY, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, to a year of Open Studio events at our new studio at Girard College, we have been busy performing, creating, and sharing our process with you. With full time studio space, growing support, and new projects we find ourselves in an exciting place and with your support we can continue to grow and create for years to come. We promise to turn your tax-deductible donation into brave new works, a creative future through the children we teach, and a shared experience through free monthly events in our studio. We are thankful for your support of our work at the intersections of contemporary dance, video and visual art.
To make your tax-deductible contribution, please make checks payable to "Miro Dance Theatre" and mail to:

Looking Forward
- Miro has been commissioned by the Philadelphia Museum of Art to create Self-Portrait for the Frida Kahlo exhibition. The work will premiere in the Great Hall on Friday, May 2nd 2008.
- Miro and Girard College have extended our residency program and we are now working with students interested in both video and dance. The students are creating their own Self-Portrait, to coincide with Miro's work for the Art Museum.
- Look for the continuation of our Open Studio Series in early spring. Funded by the William Penn Foundation, Independence Foundation, and Girard College, the Open Studio Series is a free, monthly event that provides open access to our creative process.
- In the fall we begin work on Spooky Action at a Distance. Inspired by our research with Fermilab, the work is scheduled to premiere in 2009 at Bryn Mawr College, and Indiana University of PA.
- Miro launches our new website! Visit the new site, Designed by Canary Promo + Design, for updated information on the company. Keep up with us through our blog, and make your contributions to Miro through the online link.
Looking Back
- Miro Dance Theatre, in collaboration with the PRISM Saxophone Quartet, premiered Pitch Black, an evening length production to the music of Dutch composer Jacob ter Veldhuis, at New York's Whitney Museum of American Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
- The Kimmel Center presented Miro's Hurdy Gurdy in the Perelman Theatre as part of their Summer Solstice Celebration.
- After a research period with physicists from Fermilab in Chicago, Miro and collaborators Nadia Hironaka and Eugene Lew premiered Principles of Uncertainty at the Live Arts Festival. With 50 drummers, 15 dancers, 2 video artists and the science of particle acceleration, the performances drew enormous crowds and rave reviews.
- With the help of Attack Theatre, Mike Stifel, Girard College, and a host of volunteers, we built a sprung floor in our studio at Girard College.
- We were honored to present the US premiere of MonicaMonica by Japanese artists Ikuyo Kuroda and Jiro Matsumoto.
- Utilizing our newly completed Strategic Business Plan, we secured multi-year funding from The Independence Foundation and have begun a funding drive to raise dancer salaries. Your support in this effort is greatly appreciated. Please see the back of this brochure for more information on how you can help.
- We welcomed three new members to our Board of Directors: Barry Lurie, Bob M. Dever, and David Timony.
