Antony Rizzi
Born in 1965 in West Newton, Massachusettes, Antony Rizzi trained on full scholarships from 1980 to 1985 at the Boston Ballet School with Bruce Wells, Violette Verdy, Virginia Williams and Richard Dickenson. From 1985 to 2005 Mr. Rizzi was Principal Dancer, Choreographic Assistant and Ballet Teacher at the Frankfurt Ballet under the direction of William Forsythe. He danced most of the main roles and helped to create many of them, including Kammer/Kammer, Herman Schmerman, Eidos/Telos, As a garden in this setting, Steptext, Wolff Phrase, Of Any If And, Isabelles Dance, Impressing the Czar.
In 1993 through 2005 he worked as a dancer and actor with Jan Fabre in Belgium on the productions "Universal Copyrights", "D`a un altra faccio deltempo", in the role of the devil, in the production "GlowingIcons", as Mae West / Neil Armstrong as well as in "The sound of one hand clapping" created for the Frankfurter Ballett, and most recently in "The History of Tears" that premiered at the Avignon Festival 2005.
Forhis own group, MOVING PRODUCTIONS, Rizzi has made many works, which have toured internationally. "Snowman Sinking", a piece performed by himself and his mother Verna Rizzi, performed in Frankfurt, Linz, Berlin, Oslo, Montreal and Ottowa, "JUDY WAS ANGRY" with Jan Fabres, actress Els Deckekelier and members of the Frankfurt Ballet was produced at Mousonturm in Frankfurt, "I am open and receptive to new avenues of income" was an Exhibition/Performance in Rizzi`s own apartment in Frankfurt and also shown in Berlin, at the stylist Thomas Grebs apartment.
Other works are "Being Human Being", a dance/theatre piece including NewYork performance art legend Penny Arcade, and members of the Frankfurt Ballet;"1 2 3 You and Me" a dance/film performance, "JUST DIE" a dance/theater piece created for the Ballet Labor Project with the BayerischeStaats Ballett; "I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY (in original version without subtitles)," a solo theatre piece created at the Orfeo Kino in Frankfurt; "WHAT THINK EYE", a solo dance performance made for Raphaela Givonalla at the Brotfabrik in Bonn;"LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING," created for the Leigh Warren Dancers in Adelaide, Australia; and "The Role I Should Have Done" which premiered at the Kunstlerhaus Frankfurt and was shown in Vienna at Impulztanz.
Mr.Rizzi's career also includes fashion shows in Paris and Tokyo, a part in the film "Just Dancing Around" from Mike Figgis, and setting works of Mr.Forsythe on The Star Dancers Ballet(Tokyo),The Royal Ballet(London), The Lyon Ballet, North Carolina Ballet, The Boston Ballet, Aterballetto (Reggio Emiglia,Italy), and Pretty Ugly Dance Company/Freiburg. HAND MADE, a photo and video exhibition showed in Munchen in 2004, the film "MARY BROWN," directed by Rizzi, opened the new Frankfurter Kunstverein in 1998 under the direction of Nicolas Schaffhausen, and he has had group photo exhibitions at both the Frankfurter Foto Forum, Kunstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt and Frankfurter Kunstverein.
